The Visual Studio 2017 Installer needs to upgrade the itself but is in - Microsoft Community


hello all,

question, when try add vs2017 installation, visual studio installer application boots , tells me visual studio installer needs upgraded. after seems update , install, visual studio installer restarts , tells me needs upgraded again. seem in endless loop. tried 11 times same results (in case there no cumulative update , doing them 1 @ time has been 3 weeks since last used vs installer, doubtful).

what have done try , resolve issue myself point following:

  • i have searched user forums , search engines can think of
  • i rebooted machine , tried process again no avail
  • i tried upgrade vs2017 running
  • i tried upgrade vs2017 not running
  • i ran installer command line using elevated admin privileges
    • vs_installershell -v returns "1.5.30308.1". aware of latest version is?
    • vs_installershell resume returns message needing package # resume. not meant of command line optional parameters meant actual manipulation of vs2017 packages , not installer itself

my os , hardware config follows:

  • win 10 insider preview 16170
  • visual studio community 2017 both studio , blend
  • surface pro 3
  • processor intel(r) core(tm) i7-4650u cpu @ 1.70ghz, 2301 mhz, 2 core(s), 4 logical processor(s)
  • installed physical memory (ram) 8.00 gb
  • 256 gb ssd model samsung mzmte256hmhp-000mv

anybody similar experience able resolve issue, response , answer appreciated.
