Changing the type of file that IE11 thinks it can open - Microsoft Community

i regularly need download files use file extension ".omf" (these are specialized audio or video archive files). until recently, ie asked me save file. past few months insists on trying display file contents (as if file document). there way can stop doing that? i looked in registry couldn't find obvious association between internet explorer , omf.

[edit...] realised has nothing file's extension. if change extension (upstream) different, same problem still occurs. looks ie maybe examining first few bytes of file , deciding it's displayable document (which isn't).

afaik started happening around 3-4 months ago. there anywhere can report bug microsoft?

we understand you're having issue ie 11 on windows 7. recommend trying steps in article on how change or reset ie browser.

note: the reset internet explorer settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings added list of trusted sites. reset internet explorer settings feature might reset parental control settings. recommend note these sites before use reset internet explorer settings feature. resetting internet explorer isn't reversible, , previous settings lost after reset.
