Expired Windows Build won't update -- constant restarts! - Microsoft Community

my pc stuck on os build 14986.1001, according windows 10 settings / panel.

but according reliability monitor, pc has updated windows 10 insider preview 15063 (rs2_release).

i'm in loop:

1) go system / windows update

2) see "updates available" -- earlier 15063, it's 16188 (because switched slow see if change make difference)

3) let windows update download , install, restart when prompted.

4) watch progress screen of "configuring update windows 10, xx% complete -- not turn off computer."

5) watch progress screen of "working on updates, xx% -- don't turn off pc.  this take while.  your pc restart several times."

6) bsod progress of "your pc ran problem , needs restart.  we're collecting error info, , we'll restart you.  for more information , issue , possible fixes, visit https://www.windows.com/stopcode -- if call support person, give them info: stop code: driver irql not less or equal -- failed: acpi.sys"

7) progress screen of "restoring previous version of windows..."
8) windows desktop , prompt "install new build of windows -- build of windows has expired, pc restart every few hours, , fail start. go online more information."

9) go step #1.

so here online.  please point me information.

i have tried:

ps c:\windows\system32> dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

deployment image servicing , management tool

version: 10.0.14986.1000

image version: 10.0.14986.1000

[==========================100.0%==========================] restore operation completed successfully.

the operation completed successfully.

then tried:

ps c:\windows\system32> sfc /scannow

beginning system scan.  process take time.

beginning verification phase of system scan.

verification 100% complete.

windows resource protection did not find integrity violations.

ps c:\windows\system32>

i have turned off 2 external drives.  all connected pc keyboard, mouse, monitor , ethernet.

my system drive has 355 gb of free space.

i ran windows update troubleshooter, reportedly fixed following:

- service registration missing or corrupt

- potential windows update database error detected

- windows update components must repaired

i tried deleting registry key:

hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\windowsupdate\auto update\requestedappcategories\8b24b027-1dee-babb-9a95-3517dfb9c552

i tried renaming datastore.edb folder datastore.edb.old under c:\windows\softwaredistribution\datastore.

i tried downloading , running standalone installers download.windowsupdate.com:

windows10.0-kb4016240-x64_0e60aebeb151d4b3598e4cfa9b4ccb1fc80e6e4d.msu

windows10.0-kb4016240-x86_7c7fcf0d4018e4244561cde531c3fb583d9f3051.msu

windows10.0-kb4015217-x64_60bfcc7b365f9ab40608e2fb96bc2be8229bc319.msu

, got same dead end -- "the update not applicable computer."

i tried running windows 10 upgrader hoping roll windows pre-insider state -- spent lot of time on progress screens after reboot didn't result in different version of windows.

is there log somewhere should checking clues these updates going wrong?  is there method remedy this acpi.sys failure?
