i received 2 emails "account *** email address removed privacy ***. subject microsoft account security code. both emails gave me security code. security code in each email sent 7 minutes apart , in email microsoft support team. sender when checked details bay004-omc256.hotmail,com [65.54.190.81].
my research said email microsoft has green icon next it. did not.
are these emails legitimate and, if so, why did receive 2 emails different security codes?
you can check see if have two-step verification on looking @ "two-step verification" setting at https://account.live.com/proofs/manage. if setting provides link turn on, it's off. if setting provides link turn off, it's on. think, however, you'd know whether or not on because have had deliberately enable it. requiring code when log in indicative of having enabled.
when enable two-step verification, logging in require code username , password each time log microsoft property unless explicitly check box instructs login process trust device or browser you're using. point on, not asked code when use browser or app on. switching browsers or apps require code again or clearing cookies browser require code again. apps can't support requesting codes (office outlook, example, or ios or android mail), can generate app password use within app instead of normal password. app password verifies microsoft authentication engine login attempt trusted.
