IE10 doesn't support PlayReady DRM without Silverlight - Microsoft Community

microsoft no longer actively developing silverlight , has decided html5 video way forward, thing me , people agree direction.

but there still many windows 7 machines out there don't support ie11/edge dash , playready, streaming providers still have support silverlight. reduce plurality , make things easier streaming companies time microsoft issued standard 'add-on' (or upgrade) ie10 enables playready , dash. without there risk of driving people towards chrome , widevine sure microsoft doesn't desire.

(note: not discussion morality or applicability of drm, drm fact in many cases companies don't have choice over).

hi,

aside: why still using ie10?

"but there still many windows 7 machines out there don't support ie11/edge dash , playready, streaming providers still have support silverlight. "

users (home , enterprise) should update ie11 recommended ms , regularly run windows updates. web sites dependant on earlier versions of ie should update sites modern web standards (no activex > html 5 canvas, svg , media elements). flash , silverlight dead... tg.

if possible please include links sample websites discussion question.... may of websites basing assumptions on using out-of-date active x controls (macromedia flash) actively blocked running in ie11 not in earlier versions.... ie 11 latest updates block earlier versions of silverlight running..... comparison ie10 is irrelevant, should using ie11 , ensuring windows version , software patched latest updates microsoft.

if using windows 7 or higher in domain environment should using ie11 , enterprise mode site lists manage legacy intranet assets require backward compatibility earlier versions of ie or activex controls.

regards.
