Firmware update problem on Dell laptop. - Microsoft Community


dell inspirion 15-3552 laptop calling restart install firmware update although latest update installed. device manager shows yellow triangle exclamation mark in next firmware version (indicating needs updating). firmware number shown 4.0.13 latest update dell. running windows insider build 16188. when restart computer system says "please wait while install system update" appears install update calls restart on again install same update. i've restarted 3 times same progression each time. there fix issue?

that sounds should check dell. see if others reporting on dell's support forums, or if happening windows 10 version 1703 or newer insider builds.

usually there way install bios upgrades bootable media, doing within windows works designed. should able download , install bios update separately using dell's automated update checker. also, think can reinstall same bios update have installed, can try downloading again.

you try clean boot, ought disable dell's utilities temporarily. use msconfig disable non-microsoft services , use task manager disable startup items. guess dell's update utility somehow confused bios upgrade still needing done , error vanish clean boot.

however, since shows issue in windows device manager, suggests more wrong. error shown if open device yellow exclamation mark?

i assume when restart, choosing restart or update , restart , not shutdown. restart more thorough.
