my hard disk had crashed , had reinstall windows xp sp3, holding openlicense, on new hd.

i have installed ie 8 using offline installer had downloaded earlier.

i have set windows update "automatic updates" downloaded , installed every day.

i unable know whether system has been updated or not.

when try check @ system properties->automatic updates"->"windows update site", internet explorer 8 opens , displays page saying "interenet explorer cannot display webpage."

ie not open microsoft sites.

when try open update site in other browsers, message site can reached using ie 5 or above.

how then, check status of system updates.

i aware xp support has been stopped. still entitled receive updates released last date of support.

how resolve problem ?

windows update/microsoft update websites no longer support internet explorer 8 (or ie9 or ie10). updates winxp still available via microsoft update catalog however. being said...

important! => winxp computer should not connected internet or other computers. of personal data (e.g., online banking & credit-card passwords) should considered at-risk, if not compromised.
